CYCLING

We had 3 athletes compete in our inaugural year of cycling.  These athletes, Willie Pestolesi, Ryan Harvey, and Tim Johnson, participated first at the San Diego Area Games in May. All did very well in their first competition and participated in the 500m, 1k time trial and 5k road race. After that, Willie and Ryan continued to practice in order to participate in two more tournaments, the Santa Clarita Cycling Competition and the Fall Games at Cal State Fullerton. In these tournament they were not only able to add a 4th event (10k road race), but they both medaled and bettered their times at both tournaments. Congratulations on a great first season.

Next year we hope to increase the number of athletes in cycling and will continue to have fun rides throughout the year. As competitions near, we'll increase the frequency and length of our rides. If you wish to participate in cycling the athlete must be able to ride and have their own bike. In addition, parents need to ensure their athlete gets to and from the practice location and be available by cell phone during the ride in case of any breakdowns. As always, parents are welcome to join in on the fun ride if they'd like.

BOWLING

The Irvine Eagles bowling season has just come to an end. The season has been a resounding success and we are only in our second year. We had almost 50% more participants than last year. Weekly practice sessions were held at Tustin Lanes with our Eagle athletes training along side those from our district office, nearly 50 athletes in all. Following 8 weeks of training all athletes then took part in the regional games. The games were held at Fountain Bowl in Fountain Valley. A very well run tournament facilitated by Beckie White and a great day was had by all.

We sent a team of four athletes (Michael Cassidy-Henze, Richard Wixted, Sean Campbell, and Pardiss Shahin) to participate in the California State Games. They were also held at Fountain Bowl and our young team came away with the Silver medal. This was a great year and we saw a huge improvement in our performance and we hope next year more athletes will come out and join the team.

SOFTBALL

A small group of dedicated Eagles practiced for 6 weeks this fall in preparation for a tournament that never happened. We were late starting the season and could not get ready in time. However, we continued to practice and culminated the season with a Softball game/Picnic in October where we had a lot of fun. Thanks to Mike Gerakos and his helpers for being there every Monday and once again providing some outstanding instruction. And as before, thanks to Kerianne for putting together a great Picnic.
